JOYCE HARLAN EDWARDS January 20, 1924 – September 29, 2013 JOYCE HARLAN EDWARDS OF WACO PASSED AWAY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2013 AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE 2:00 P.M., THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, AT SEVENTH AND JAMES BAPTIST CHURCH. VISITATION WILL BE 5:30 TO 7:30 P.M., WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, AT WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY GARDEN ROOM. JOYCE HARLAN EDWARDS WAS BORN JANUARY 20, 1924, TO AARON OSCAR HARLAN AND SUE EVA GOODGION HARLAN. SHE ATTENDED WACO SCHOOLS AND BAYLOR UNIVERSITY. SHE WAS A DEVOTED CHRISTIAN AND A FAITHFUL MEMBER OF SEVENTH & JAMES BAPTIST CHURCH. IN 1942 SHE MARRIED BEDFORD DUNCAN EDWARDS AND BECAME A FULL-TIME MOM TO THEIR CHILDREN. SHE WAS ALSO AN ACTIVE VOLUNTEER, BECAME PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH WACO, SOUTH JUNIOR, WACO HIGH SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY JUNIOR HIGH AND UNIVERSITY HIGH SCHOOL PTAs, AND SERVED AS A COMMITTED VOLUNTEER FOR THE WACO SYMPHONY AND THE WACO HISTORICAL SOCIETY. SHE ALSO SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE WACO/MCLENNAN COUNTY BAR AUXILIARY. AFTER HER CHILDREN WERE GROWN, SHE WORKED AT BAYLOR'S MOODY LIBRARY. SHE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS, HER HUSBAND OF 65 YEARS, AND HER THREE SISTERS: VERA HORN (JACK), IVA THIGPEN (BOYD) AND VERNA LEWIS (HERBERT). SHE IS ALSO PREDECEASED BY HER BELOVED GRANDDAUGHTER, CAROL NELSON. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER DAUGHTER, ELAINE EDWARDS NELSON (DAVID) OF DALLAS, AND HER SON, GALEN BEDFORD EDWARDS (CATHY) OF WACO, GRANDCHILDREN HARLAN NELSON HRNCIR (TRENT), RYAN BEDFORD EDWARDS (JENNIFER), CAMERON NOLAN EDWARDS, AND AUSTIN SAWYER EDWARDS, ALONG WITH TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE MADE TO SEVENTH & JAMES BAPTIST CHURCH OR TO THE JOYCE H. AND BEDFORD D. EDWARDS SCHOLARSHIP IN THE BAYLOR SCHOOL OF MUSIC.
