Dr. David M. McTaggart July 23, 1939 – July 17, 2013 Dr. David M. McTaggart passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, after a year-long battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, at St. Louis Catholic Church with Fr. Angelo Bertini and Msgr. Mark Deering as Celebrants. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation and rosary will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at Wilkirson Hatch Funeral Home. Dr. McTaggart was born on July 23, 1939, in Emmetsberg, Iowa, to William B. and Lucille McTaggart. He graduated from St. Edmond's High School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1957. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and obtained his medical degree in 1964. He completed an internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and a pathology residency at General Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He married Shadlee Jackson on June 29, 1963, in Hastings, Nebraska. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dr. McTaggart served in the United States Navy at Oakland Naval Hospital in California from 1969 through 1971. Dr. McTaggart joined Dr. R. E. Henderson, Jr. in the practice of pathology at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in 1971. Dr. McTaggart served the Waco community with his partners at Medical Laboratory Service of Waco and Central Texas Pathology for over 40 years. He retired in December 2011. Dr. McTaggart was a golf enthusiast and a youth soccer coach. He enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. Dr. McTaggart is survived by his wife; his daughter, Mary Beth Velasquez and husband, John of Carrollton, Texas; his sons, David and wife, Melanie of Kingwood, Texas and Michael and wife, Ashley of San Antonio; brothers, Robert and Michael McTaggart; sisters, Lou Ann Sullivan and Kathleen Kearney; and six grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Matthew Velasquez, Claire and Grant McTaggart, and Charlotte McTaggart. The family wishes to thank Doctors Wayne Falcone, Rodney Richie, Tom Harris, Richard Helmer and Gary Barbin, and the nursing staff at Providence Hospital and the caregivers at Providence Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reicher Catholic High School or Texas Children's Cancer Center.
